On April 30 local time, the Kazakhstan Karaganda 500MW Wind-Storage Project, jointly funded and developed by China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. and Samruk-Energy JSC, officially broke ground. This marks another major renewable energy project successfully launched by CEEC under the framework of China-Kazakhstan governmental cooperation following the Sauran Solar-Storage Project.

Located in Osakarov District, Karaganda Region, Kazakhstan, the project is approximately 150 kilometers from the capital Astana and covers about 8,000 hectares. With a total investment of approximately USD 573 million, it features a 500 MW wind power plant with a 150 MW / 300 MWh energy storage system. Upon completion, the project will generate more than 1.7 billion kWh of green electricity annually, which will significantly improve the local energy mix and make a substantial contribution to Kazakhstan’s energy security and carbon neutrality goals.
