On October 28 local time, the step-up substation for the Furais 2 GW Photovoltaic Project was officially broken ground by a consortium comprising China Energy International Group Co., Ltd., China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Power Engineering Co., Ltd., and China Energy Engineering Group Northwest China Electric Power Test Research Institute Co., Ltd., marking the project’s entry into the full construction phase.

Located northeast of Jeddah in Mecca Province, western Saudi Arabia, the project is a key component of Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030” renewable energy roadmap. Its scope encompasses design, procurement, manufacturing, installation, construction, and commissioning. Once operational, the project will optimize the local energy mix, promote green and low-carbon development, and inject new momentum into high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.
