Construction Begins on the First Turbine Foundation of Saudi Arabia’s Shakira 1 GW Wind Power Project

On November 19 local time, excavation for the first turbine foundation of Shakira 1 GW Wind Power Project officially commenced, signaling the project’s move into on-site construction. The project is being constructed by a consortium under an EPC contract. The consortium members include CEEC International, China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Power Engineering Co., Ltd., and China Energy Engineering Group Northwest China Electric Power Test Research Institute Co., Ltd.

Situated between Al-Majma’ah and Al-Mu’ajjibah in Riyadh Province, the project is a cornerstone of the renewable-energy roadmap under “Saudi Vision 2030”. Once operational, it is expected to generate approximately 106.5 billion kWh of electricity and reduce CO2 emissions by around 45 million tonnes over the next 25 years. It will significantly advance Saudi Arabia’s energy transition and support the realization of its carbon neutrality goals.
