China’s Gas-Fired Power Plant with the Largest Unit Capacity Achieves Full-Capacity Production

On January 20, Unit No. 2 of Guoneng Zhejiang Anji Meixi 2×9H-class Gas Turbine New Construction Project completed its 168-hour full-load test run, marking the commencement of the project’s full-capacity production. As China’s gas-fired power plant with the largest unit capacity and the highest efficiency, the project was designed by China Energy Engineering Group Zhejiang Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. and built by China Energy Engineering Group Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Co., Ltd.

Built on the site of the former Meixi Thermal Power Plant, the project comprises two 9H-class gas-steam combined cycle units, each with a capacity of 843 MW, bringing the total installed capacity to 1,686 MW.

Upon full-capacity operation, the project is expected to generate 7,000 GWh of electricity annually, sufficient to meet the yearly power demand of approximately 6 million households. It will also cut carbon dioxide emissions by roughly 1.86 million tonnes and save approximately 680,000 tonnes of standard coal each year. The project is set to give a strong boost to the development of a new-type power system and the green energy transition in the region.
