CEEC Secures Bid for Africa’s Largest Standalone Energy Storage Project

Recently, a consortium, comprising Energy China International, China Energy Engineering Group Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Co., Ltd., and Southwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. of China Power Engineering Consulting Group, secured the bid for the Nefertiti 1000 MWh Energy Storage Project in Benban, the largest standalone energy storage project in Egypt.

Located in the Benban Solar Park in Aswan, Egypt, the project adopts an EPC turnkey model. Leveraging CEEC’s full industrial chain strengths in energy storage, it primarily involves the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of a 220 kV substation and the energy storage plant area, as well as the upgrade of the receiving substation. Once completed, the project will provide 1 GWh of power load regulation capacity, effectively enhancing the stability of Egypt’s power grid. It will help the country achieve its strategic goal of generating 42% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, marking a leap in the transition from an energy producer to a green energy export hub.
