CEEC-built Eritrea’s Largest Solar Power PV Plant Enters Full Operation

On April 2 local time, the CEEC-built Dekemhare 30MW Solar Power PV Plant, the largest of its kind in Eritrea, was connected to the grid at full capacity.

Located in Dekemhare, south of the capital Asmara, the plant is the country’s first centralized solar power PV project with an energy storage system. China Energy Engineering Group Shanxi Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. acted as the EPC contractor, while Energy China International oversaw the plant construction. The scope of work primarily involves the construction of a 30MW PV farm, a 15MW/30MWh energy storage system, a 15/66kV step-up station, and a 750-meter dual-circuit 66kV overhead transmission line.

Once operational, the plant is expected to generate 73.89 million kWh of electricity annually, significantly easing local power shortages. By smoothing out the intermittency and fluctuations of solar generation, the integrated energy storage system ensures a stable and reliable power supply.
