Tunisia’s Largest Solar PV Project Achieves Full-Capacity Grid Connection

On December 16 local time, the 100 MW Kairouan Solar PV Project, the largest single-site photovoltaic project in Tunisia, achieved full-capacity grid connection and officially entered commercial operation. The project is EPC-constructed by the consortium of China Energy Engineering Group Tianjin Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. and Northwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. of China Power Engineering Consulting Group.

Located in Kairouan in central-eastern Tunisia, the project features a total installed capacity of 100 MW and covers an area of approximately 200 ha. It is Tunisia’s first large-scale ground-mounted photovoltaic power plant.

During the construction phase, the project has cumulatively created 897 local jobs, effectively boosting regional employment. Once operational, it is expected to generate 222 GWh of clean electricity annually and reduce CO2 emissions by 117,000 tonnes, contributing to the optimization of Tunisia’s energy structure.
