Central Asia’s First AEM Water Electrolysis Hydrogen Production Equipment Commissioned

On April 9 local time, Central Asia’s first AEM water electrolysis hydrogen production equipment, jointly developed by China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, was officially put into operation in Astana, Kazakhstan. The commissioning ceremony marked a substantive breakthrough in joint research, development, and application demonstration of key green hydrogen technologies between China and Kazakhstan.

At the ceremony, CEEC signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Hydrogen Energy Technological Innovation Cooperation with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The parties also witnessed the inauguration of the China-Kazakhstan Hydrogen Energy Technology Innovation Center.

Aimed at addressing key technical challenges in the promotion and application of AEM water electrolysis hydrogen production, the equipment is of great significance for reducing hydrogen production costs and improving energy efficiency and safety. The commissioning of the equipment in Kazakhstan represents a concrete step in deepening technological innovation cooperation between China and Kazakhstan. It will effectively drive the integrated advancement of scientific research, talent development, and industrial application, providing solid technical support for the region’s green and low-carbon transition.
