On August 27 local time, Energy China International, Southwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. of China Power Engineering Consulting Group, and China Energy Construction Group Co., Ltd., acting as a consortium, successfully signed the EPC contract for the first phase of the Midelt Solar-Storage Project in Morocco.
Located in the Midelt region of Morocco, the project aims to build a PV power plant with a capacity of approximately 630 MW and an electrochemical energy storage system of 1,300 MWh. The scope of work covers survey, design, equipment supply, construction, installation, commissioning, and related services. Upon completion, the project will become the largest single-site solar-storage project in Africa. As a key project for Morocco’s energy transition, the project will fully leverage the role of large-scale energy storage systems in peak shaving, frequency regulation, and stabilizing the output of new energy. This will effectively enhance the adjustment flexibility and power supply reliability of the local power system, promote the large-scale development and efficient consumption of renewable energy such as photovoltaics, and provide strong support for Morocco to achieve its renewable energy development goals for 2030.
